Interpreting Services

Organising a conference, supervisory board meeting or management meeting? You need the services of a qualified conference interpreter.

Interpreting Modes

Conference interpreting encompasses many different forms of interpreting.

Simultaneous Interpreting

Interpretation is uttered almost at the same time as the original speech. The interpreter works together with at least one other colleague in a sound-proof booth. The speaker speaks into a microphone in the conference room, the interpreter hears his/her voice via headphones and interprets what is said almost simultaneously over a microphone.

Consecutive Interpreting

Interpretation after the speaker has finished speaking. The interpreter sits with the participating parties, listens to the speaker and, once he/she has finished, renders this in another language, generally with the help of notes. This type of interpretation has largely been replaced by simultaneous interpretation, but is used still in some settings (eg. Highly specialised conferences, business meals, small groups and site visits).

Interpreting services are generally based on a daily rate, even if the assignment is short, since it is not only the actual interpreting time that is covered with this rate, but also preparation for the subject matter, terminology research including creating a glossary, reworking, terminology maintenance as well as travel time.
